The terms web designer and web developer are used interchangeably in the media and advertisements. But, they are not the same thing. Design involves what the visitor sees on your website, development involves the site’s functionality. This article explores the difference between these two disciplines.

The New Age of Electronic Communication: Social, Mobile, and Viral

Last week I spoke with a local Business Association about Digital/Social Media.  We discussed what it is and how it can affect their business.  Here are my "notes" from before giving the talk that may serve as a blue print for getting the wheels turning for your company's social media effort. 

Social media does not make money, but DOES have a Return On Investment (ROI).  How is that possible you ask?  Well, even though it does not make money directly, it begins a process that results in you making more money with your business.

Put very simply:

During our initial consultation with a potential client, we always access what functionality and design best suits their web site’s purpose.  Often the look of the site is the most important (photographers, artists, designers, models, etc).  Other times functionality is more important (retail sites, government sites, event sites, multi-media sites, etc.).  Both deserve a great design and functionality, but it is always important to know which one drives the purpose of the web site.  Here is an example of our experience with a client who learned the hard way how important functionality was for his website.
